The events your Sociavore website sends to your Google Analytics 4 property, what each one includes, and where to find them in GA4.

When you connect Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to your Sociavore website, your site sends a set of built-in events to your GA4 property automatically. You don't need to add any code. Use these events to build funnels (menu viewed → added to cart → checkout → purchase) and to see which menu items sell best. Please check Google Analytics to understand how to add your GA4 Measurement ID in the dashboard.

Events sent to your Google Analytics 4

  • page_view — every page a guest opens.
  • view_item_list — a guest opens one of your online ordering menus. Includes the menu name and the items on it.
  • add_to_cart — a guest adds a menu item to the cart. Includes the item name, variant, menu category, price, quantity and whether it was an upsell item.
  • remove_from_cart — a guest removes a menu item from the cart.
  • begin_checkout — a guest clicks Checkout in the cart. Includes every item in the cart and the cart value.
  • purchase — a guest places an order. Includes the order number, order total, tax and fees, delivery cost, discount, discount code, location name and every item ordered.
  • form_submit — a guest submits a form on your website (for example a contact or catering form). Includes the form name, the page and the location. No personal details such as name or email are sent.

Every item in these events includes a location ID, so you can compare locations if you have more than one. GA4 marks purchase as a key event automatically.

add_to_cart is for menu items only

Adding gift cards, event tickets or store products to the cart does not send add_to_cart to GA4. They are still included in begin_checkout and purchase when the guest checks out.

Where to find the events in GA4

  • All events and their counts: Reports → Engagement → Events.
  • Sales per menu item: Reports → Monetization → Ecommerce purchases. Look at the Item name column to see how many of each item were bought and the revenue.
  • Check that events arrive: open your website in another tab, then go to Reports → Realtime in GA4. Events show up within a minute.

Why GA4 numbers can differ from your Sociavore reports

Your Sociavore reports count every order. GA4 only counts guests whose browser lets the tracking run, so it usually shows fewer orders:

  • If your website shows a cookie consent banner, events are only sent for guests who accept marketing cookies.
  • Ad blockers and some privacy browsers block Google Analytics.
  • Orders placed through other channels (for example delivery apps or phone orders) never pass through your website.

Use GA4 for trends and item popularity, and your Sociavore reports for exact sales totals. Please check Reports Dashboard to understand how to find your Sales, Fee and Menu reports.
